Rules

What to expect in our programs.

Game Day Attire

  • Players must wear the appropriate basketball shoes and shorts. Each player must also have a dark and light shirt or a reversible dark and light jersey to play. Teams are distinguished as either dark or light team.

Attendance

  • Game day attendance will be limited to 20 members on any given game day in order to insure that all members get a chance to play. As such a GroupMe invite will be sent out one or two days in advance to coordinate the attendance. The 1st 20 members to respond will automatically play. Any additional members or daily players (over the 20 limit) will be put on standby until a spot is available but there are no guarantees they will play. An erasable sign in board will be provided to keep track of the players who accepted the invite first thereby determining who plays first.
  • Show up on time — participants are required to be on the court no later than 15 minute after start time. Any member not arriving on time can and will lose his or her spot to another member waiting for an open spot. In which case the late arriving member will need to wait for the next available open spot.

Game format

  • All shots scored inside the 3-point line are counted as 1 point and all shot scored beyond the 3-point line is scored as 2 points.

  • A scoreboard is used to coordinate time and score for both Full and Half court games.

  • The Thursday Half court program runs on a 9 minute game clock. First team to 11 or whoever is ahead at the end of the 9 minute clock. If both teams are tied at the end of regulation time, then the team which scores next (sudden death ) wins. Ball possession is determined based on the possession arrow.

Half Court Note — The Thursday evening program is special in that teams are selected prior to start of play. Players are rated for skill/position and teams are created and balanced to insure fair competitive play. An algorithm and two apps (HoopsRater & TeamBuilder) were created specifically for this purpose.
  • The Thursday and Sunday Full Court programs run on a 10 minute clock and a 30 second shot clock. Like the half court program the first to 11 or whichever team is ahead at the end of regulation time wins. The shot clock resets to 14 seconds on fouls, rim shots or a disputed call.

  • Both Half court and Full court games are to 11 straight up or whichever team is ahead at the end of 10 minutes.

  • Winning team stays on; losing team rotates out if others are waiting. The only exception to this rule is when there are 20 players on the court or 4 teams. When this occurs the following special rule will go into effect:

    • Glenn Cadwell Rule – Game Day 4 Teams (20 Players Attending): The winning team (A)will be limited to 3 wins at which point after the 3rd win the teams (A & D) on the court will sit and the two teams that had been sitting out (B &C) will play against each other. The winner between these two teams will then play against the winning team (A). This rule is put into place to insure no player sits more than 2 games and also insures that the all teams get an ample opportunity to play.
  • Games are self-officiated — call your own fouls, make your own calls and settle disputes with the possession arrow.

Conduct

  • Everyone gets a fair shot at run time — there will be no monopolizing of the courts.
  • No fights, disruptions, foul language or trash talking is permitted. Any player violating this rule can be asked to leave and is subject to being blacklisted from the program.
  • Respect your teammates and especially the admins and site monitors that are there to coordinate the program and attendance for the day.

Safety

  • Any jewelry that could cause injury is prohibited.
  • Players should be in good health for full-contact, competitive play.
  • No rough housing or running is allowed in the gym.
  • Food is strictly prohibited. Water and sports drinks are allowed but please pick up after yourself.
  • No hanging or dunking on the rims or throwing of the balls against the walls.
