About CVSA
Thirty - plus years of playing and organizing adult pickup basketball in the Central Valley.
How it started
The Adult Open Court Basketball program began as a small, friends-only group in Modesto and has grown over more than 30 years into an open, welcoming run for any adult who wants to play competitive basketball. For the last 20 years, in collaboration with the Riverbank Recreation Department, we have played solely out of the Cardozo Middle School gym. Our programs have continued to grow as players learn about our programs entirely through word of mouth.
Why we do it this way
Most recreational basketball programs run into the same problems: limited availability, no real coordination, and games that turn into arguments and fights due to the lack of structure and coordination. We built CVSA to solve those issues. Every session has the attendance managed, game flow coordinated, and clear rules enforced — so instead of street-ball chaos, you get a consistent, well-run game every time.
Who it's for
CVSA is open to adults 15 and up, at every level from weekend regulars to former high school and college players. Most of our regulars already have gym memberships elsewhere, but come back to CVSA specifically for the competitive, full-court cardio workout — a 30-minute full-court run can burn as much as 800 calories, more than most exercise machines in a typical gym.
Structure
Games run twice a week — Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings through afternoon — split across full-court and half-court groups so players can pick the pace and impact that best fits them. Sessions run in one month blocks, with sign-ups at the start of each block to keep game days manageable for everyone.
